I’m a bit of a weather tracking nerd, I’ll admit it. In my Mac’s dashboard, I tend to track places I work with people, places I’d like to go and places I’ve been. That’s Portland, MAINE in the upper left at 100 degrees. Concord, NH. Glen Mills, PA. Toronto, Ontario. Eau Claire, WI. Key West is certainly looking appealing and Vancouver, my beloved Vancouver, BC? 63 degrees. How civilized. Now that it’s after 11 p.m., the temperatures here are down in the low 90s.
Pennsic prep is necessarily abbreviated this year. Laundry is on-going but I think most of the Pennsic stuff is clean at this point. The humidity may be at 65-75% but it’s hot enough that stuff is still drying quickly in the sun out on the back porch. I have achieved footwear that is more supportive than my usual little medieval shoes and shouldn’t kill me in the heat. I wouldn’t call these shoes subtle or say they’ll blend in all that well, but they’re not sneakers. I’ll be taking sneakers too. Must keep feet happy.
I’ve got a vague plan for food but nothing involved. I have a bunch of eggs to use up so there will likely be cookies. (OH NO!) And Pennsic is always better with Chex mix (at least it means I get my salt).
So, yes, crazy week at work. Pushing probably a little too hard to get stuff done and yet it doesn’t feel like hard enough… Worried about vacation coverage so I’m already planning on checking email lots. Stressing about stupid stuff. Getting interrupted by other stuff. Not being able to prioritize due to conflicts. I’m ready to shut up and reboot my job. Even if I check my email 3 times a day at Pennsic, I will enjoy the time off immensely. I need it.

Successfully lived through the bbq-pool party this weekend with a lot of help from friends. We’re very lucky to have some serious corn shuckers amongst us. And cleaners. I’m not ready to do it again soon, but our friends rock. Oh, the party was great too, but my favorite memory from the weekend will be going downstairs to clean Sunday and finding out that two somebodies already did the bulk of it. There’s still some minor stuff to do, a few more runs of the dishwasher and putting stuff where it belongs, that kind of thing… but we have the most awesome friends ever. Thank you to everyone who helped and attended and was generally awesome.
This did not mean I wasn’t a total zombie yesterday. (I wasn’t the only one!) See… we were having so much fun Saturday that I didn’t want the day to end or to go to bed, despite being dead on my feet by 1 a.m. I procrastinated until almost 4 a.m. I hit the pillow around 3:50 and was asleep by 3:52. Sunday involved zombie-ing, new sneakers, awesome antique cars, lunch at a new place and friends offering to help clean because they’re still awesome the day after.
I’m mostly recovered today. Sleepy but not a zombie today… which is good because work was crazy today.
No more wild parties for a while… but Saturday was wicked fun. Thank you to everyone who came by and especially to everyone who helped with prep and/or clean up!

Perhaps the problem is that I don’t commute and thus don’t drive daily.
Perhaps the problem is that I’m oversensitive to the oblivious and stupid drivers on the planet.
Or perhaps… just perhaps… people should pay more attention while driving such as to whether their blinkers are on or not!
I ran errands this evening during rush hour and encountered no fewer than 8 different people driving in front of me with their blinkers on for long stretches for no apparent reason.
Could be coincidence. Could be an epidemic of oblivious people with their cell phones or stereos up so loud they can’t hear the blinker clicking.
Either way, why do they have to drive in front of me? Granted, I have an adorable little skull and crossbones magnet and jaunty driving lights on the front of my car which I’m sure would look adorable in someone’s rear view… if these drivers were paying sufficient attention to glance in their rear view mirrors. My car also has cute little racing stripes on its nose and a styling hood scoop, not that any of these drivers would have seen the epic cuteness of my car.
Perhaps the rush hour commute is saturated with these blindly blinking blinkers. Perhaps it’s an epidemic. Perhaps it’s a cultural reaction to the bad economy or unemployment or global warming. Whatever it happens to be, I appear to be a magnet for it. Save me!
