Mr. Paw is indeed increasing in volume and mass. And the kitten food is almost assuredly to blame. So, what to do? Deprive the kittens of their kitteny yumminess before they’re a year old? (And nutrition for that matter.) Or try to segregate the food dishes? (Because that worked out so well last time…) Then again, Mr. Paw himself didn’t get kitten food for long at all and has clearly turned out just fine. (Falstaff would eat the kitten food and then be terribly ill so I discontinued kitten food for Tenny after less than 2 weeks.) Anyway, any suggestions are welcome.

Also, if you can tell me why all my cats want to eat my flowers, that would be helpful too.

PSA - Font = GuinnessExtraStout As an public service announcement, I feel it is necessary to point out that I haven’t had any coffee or other caffeine since Sunday.

That’s okay though, I’ve been taking cold medicine and trying to stay hydrated like a good little sick person. And cold medicine itself has certain stimulating qualities.

(I’m reallyreallyreallyreallyreally looking forward to having coffee tomorrow morning though! I think I’m well enough that I can risk a little dehydration, right?)

Protecting one’s tail is very serious business around here. There are tail ninjas who will stalk your tail and attack without warning!

I watched the first 2 seasons of The Guild before 10 a.m. I did a 10 a.m. conference call, during which someone’s kitten decided to puke on my carpet. I then watched The Proposal and The Felon (two separate movies but it would be an amusing combination). The Felon was chosen simply because it had Val Kilmer. It wasn’t very good. And now I’m contemplating what I should watch to further mess up the Fop’s Netflix recommendations. Perhaps some Airwolf or Kevin Costner movies?

When you go to bed at 8 p.m. and sleep for a handful of hours here and there, when you wake up coughing at 6 a.m. it quickly becomes obvious that you’re not getting back to sleep comfortably anyway so you might as well get up. By “quickly”, I mean over the course of an hour of inner monologue alternating between whining denial and whining pouting at being sick. For the record, I’m firing my inner monologue’s writers and getting new ones. I’ll do it myself if I have to!

So, up at 7 a.m. this morning, with no foreseeable productivity due to a very congested brain, I started watching Netflix and hitting reload on social networking pages between bouts of sneezing and coughing.

I am not a morning person at the best of times. Sporadic sleep, cold medicine and and generally being a snot monster does not improve my mornings. I’m also unimpressed that I’m sick for the 2nd time this year. I thought we’d worked it out that I only had to be sick once a year now after being sick almost constantly the whole time I worked for the schools?

To make up for all this injustice, I am still in my pjs.

My awesome Fop has gone forth into the world to show ID to buy me Better Medicine and juice as well as Puffs Plus, because my nose is delicate and see the aforementioned description of my state of being. He rocks. More importantly, he’s willing to sign off promising not to make anything illegal from the cold medicine he’s buying for me. Yay!

So the most annoying part of being sick? I’m sufficiently sick that I can’t do anything more involved that watching tv. No knitting, no reading, no real useful brain waves at all. Wasted days.

health, sick

Icky! Font=Faith CollapsingMy first iPhone headset died a while back after more than a year of faithful service. I tested it with another iPhone and it was Very Dead. I bought another Apple headset but this one lasted only a few months before the mic stopped working. I could listen all I wanted but no talking. Odd. I’m not exactly gentle with my headsets but it was still surprising it didn’t last long. I began to worry that the headset port was going, but I ordered a different brand of headset anyway just in case. The new headset didn’t work with my iPhone either.

I did a little searching about just in case there was a firmware update I shouldn’t have installed or some other trick I should try to get the port to work. If I hadn’t found this page, I would have looked for quotes on repairing the port.

Instead, I grabbed my faithful metal paperclip, unbent it a bit and dug a rather startling amount of dust and pocket fluff out of my headset port. I shut off the iPhone first, of course. Then, as if by magic, the mics on my two latest headsets work! Hurray! (As an added bonus, I now have a spare, functional headset.)

So, if your microphone on your iPhone has stopped working, try cleaning the pocket fluff out of the port. The best tool for this is probably a small, metal (uncoated) paperclip. Be gentle and make sure you turn your phone off before you start poking around in there! That is all.

P.S. Yes, I’m having fun with fonts lately.

absurdIn the absurd and silly category this week we have the Snuggie for Dogs. I actually saw this product earlier at Kohl’s so I can unfortnuately confirm it’s not just a figment of the Internet’s imagination. Yes, the blanket with arms is now available for dogs of all sizes… poor dogs. (Here’s a picture of a poor little dog in a pink snuggie linked from PetCo.) Poor dogs.

In other news, I had a great workout this morning as well as excellent shopping karma this afternoon despite the proximity to the the Snuggie for Dogs. And then all my errands came to a stop for people being dumb trying to get around a big accident at a major intersection. One lane was being directed through by a police officer but people were still trying to make turns around it as well as follow the traffic signals instead of the police officer. It took me 15 minutes to get through the intersection at which point I decided I’d had enough of stupid people and put off my trips to Home Depot and PetSmart.

The weather is lovely. The windows are open. The cats are flopped about. It’s Friday. I’m ready for Spring!
