Monster Cat is a fierce hunter. He is not to be trifled with. Even if he’s napping.

I am on day 2 of absolutely no voice. I can whisper but that’s all.
I have a headache.
My cough sounds like I work in a coal mine.

I am cranky. And really, thoroughly DONE being sick. Okay?

Oh the bright side… The Fop just called upstairs, “Would you like a cupcake? Stomp once for yes.”
*stomp*
“That was rather… uh… quick.”
*stomp*

Yay! Cupcake bliss!

That is all.

All the photos for this episode and the previous episode were taking within about 7 minutes of each other. Bath to Battle and Battle to Bath are common escalation paths for the mini-cats. Somehow, Tasha always ends up on the receiving end of the bath…

IMG_4450“zzzzzzz…zzzzz.” says Abby.
“zzz… *kitten snore*… zzzzz…” says Tasha.

I am no longer seeing pink elephants. However, for a brief period of time, I thought the mini-cats had absconded with my cold medicine. It was a scary and tenuous time. And just the fact that I can use the word “absconded” without first trying to use “nasconded” (which is my Italian brain helping – “nascondere” means to hide) is a sign that the drugs are still doing something. Another lovely side-effect of cold medicine is that I don’t get tired. This means that when I was procrastinating taking Robitussin last night (because it’s vile but effective but vile) I was able to procrastinate until well after midnight. In truth, I was also procrastinating lying down and the inevitable coughing spasms associated with changing from vertical to horizontal.

Yesterday, my voice was froggy and it hurt a lot to talk. Today, well, my voice is still frog-like if that frog also has been smoking 2 packs a day for 40 years. But! It hurts less to talk. Yippee? By tomorrow I’ll be able to record as Eartha Kitt.

Did you know Eartha Kitt wrote 3 autobiographies? The first was published before she was 30. Proof of her concentrated awesomeness.

In other news, I’m finally watching The IT Crowd as recommended enthusiastically by my brother. It’s a quick one to watch too: 3 seasons of 6 “half hour” episodes. I watched the first 2 seasons yesterday on NetFlix Instant. I wonder what non-IT people think of the show. I think it’s a very clever and insightful show that echoes (sometimes painfully) the real experience of an IT department pretty accurately. The characters are a little too over-simplified and are perhaps too classic and too overly caricatured. But really? It works. It’s a BBC comedy with all the strange little trappings of the British humor with a healthy helping of IT humor and that unique IT perspective on things that I’d almost forgotten was out of the ordinary. The IT office is so great, especially in the first season. They have dead computer bits everywhere, little toys, strange posters, trash everywhere… stereotypical but also very much the classic IT cave in some neglected part of the offices that no other department would inhabit. Anyway, I’ll probably have more thoughtful and amusing things to say about this show when I’m not so congested.

IMG_5526.JPGSee? I do take photos of things other than kittens. What you see here is the culmination of my holiday baking this year.

Decongestants are fun stuff. I caved last night and started taking them. That means that, after 3 days of emphatically not getting sick, I am indeed sick. And cranky. Decongestants make me loopy. And wired. And tired. And even more wacky than usual. The Fop will valiantly fetch me more drugs, decongestants that last more than 3.5 hours preferably, so that I can hopefully sleep more tonight and kick this crappy ick. The Fop is my hero.

In return, I will resist the urge to dress the kittens in little purple tutus and have them reenact Swan Lake. It will be difficult to resist this, but I shall. The pink elephants will have to do for entertainment tonight.

IMG_4123This is one of my favorite pics of all 3 cats (and yes, you have seen it in a Monster Cat episode) and it pretty much sums up my weekend. There’s been a lot of high quality couch time, knitting, tea, snacks, celementines and such. I am still *not* getting sick, though the sore tonsils persist. (grumble)

The kittens were quite wound up this morning, probably the on-going windy weather and storms due to blow through. They have a very intense cycle of running around like crazy then crashing hard. These kittens live in fast-forward. Tenny, on the other hand, sits and observes and tries to not to become terrain or take collateral damage.

Yep, just another day here at the ranch.

I had fun at the New Year’s Eve party (and many other people seemed to as well) and watching the Mummer’s parade on New Year’s Day. The party seemed more effortless than previous parties perhaps due to me not bothering to stress, perhaps due to the the helpfulness of everyone who showed up or perhaps because chicken korma is just awesome and makes everything better. The dishwasher has been working its butt off as well. There was bacon on New Year’s Day. Yesterday evening found several of us still in pajamas at the end of the Mummer’s parade (after 4 pm sometime). That’s a good post-party day!

I have spent all of today in my pjs as well. I had high hopes for getting dressed but the couch is just so darned comfy. I woke up with a scratchy throat but I’m *not* getting sick. Really. I ate all the fruit the Fop prescribed to me. I even had some orange juice today. I also incredible chocolate cake. Because not only does chocolate cake help fight illness it makes a good breakfast!

I ended up napping for about an hour this evening which may be my downfall in terms of sleep tonight. Now I’m going to go change into new pjs and curl up on the couch again.

By the by, I’d like some snow again, please.
