Miscellany of a Cheshire Cat

“It has come to our attention that we should introduce ourselves,” says the little one on the left.

“Yes, we probably should,” says the little one on the right. “I, with the gorgeous silver coat, am Abby. And yes, I’m named after her.”

“I, the daintier, golden kitten, am Tasha,” says the girl on the left. “I am named for Tasha Tudor, who was totally amazing and makes our thumb monkeys look pretty normal.”

Tasha and Abby. Why, yes, they’ve noticed that they’re adorable. And currently Tasha is exploring the area behind my monitor which only makes me somewhat nervous. Mostly she’s cleaning, carrying on the tradition that my desk is the hip place to take a bath.

Here’s your fierce kitten fix for the day. Sorry it’s been so long – I know you’re desperate – but I was away for the weekend and then transferring data to the new Mac Pro. Whee! The girls continue to grow and explore and generally tire out Mr. Paw.

Tenny’s initial reaction to the kittens was definitely, “What’s this creature? Can I sniff it? Why is it here?” They’re playing more now and there’s even grooming.

There are varying degrees of “getting along” going on. Monster Cat seems happy enough to tolerate the kittens. I even caught him actually grooming one today. This afternoon I opened up the guest room and they were allowed in the hall, bathroom and my office. They have been galloping about, exploring and making trouble. Important detail: The desk is no longer a safe haven. The kittens can get up there too. Much to the chagrin of Tennyson and my stacks of books. I’m going to have to reorganize, again, to avoid too many flying books. Stacks of books make good lounges for kittens though… until they move. And then books slip and slide and fly!

If I could keep Monster Cat from hogging all their food, it would be easier to let them explore more while still having their home base in the guest room. He’s pretty good. He knows he *shouldn’t* be eating the baby food. But that doesn’t always stop him from chowing down. Clearly kitten food is up there with gooshy food and yogurt on the yummy scale.

I will have to put the kittens to bed soon actually. Tenny needs his beauty rest.

Kittens are squeaking in the other room so I’m off to hang with them! Monster Cat will probably follow. He likes their food.

“Were you going to use this?” she asks. “I could help!”

Fans of Apple products, the kittens like to play on the stack of technology. Yes, the guest room in which the kittens are camped out is a bit of a technology graveyard. I don’t think they mind as it gives them more stuff to climb on.

They are much closer to having names now… soon they’ll be formally introduced!

“Perhaps if you plugged this in it would be a cozy, warm spot for us to nap too. We’d be fine with that even if you never printed with it,” she points out helpfully.

A perfect, sweet tribute to Mary Travers today from Illiad over at UserFriendly. She was older than I thought she was.

I realized this week that I didn’t have any Peter, Paul and Mary in my iTunes library (I had a bunch of tapes, once upon a time…) so I bought 2 collections: Peter, Paul and Mary in Concert and The Very Best of Peter, Paul and Mary. Between the 2, for $23 I ended up with 43 songs and all my favorites.

They were an amazing trio. Her voice… I wish I could sing like that.
