So I’m pleased to say that Miss Evil is doing considerably better today than she was a week ago. She really started to perk up on Thursday and has been more active and talkative. This is overall a good thing, even factoring in the stench of the gooshy food required to keep her happy.
Speaking of keeping her happy… Last night we had tons o’ people over for a movie and she didn’t get her evening gooshy food. She had plenty of dry food and water within five feet, but the gooshy food didn’t appear. She got a little stubborn when we finally (*yawn*) went to bed. She wanted her own half of the bed all to herself AND all the attention she could get. This morning, however, the squawking began. I went to take a shower and she hustled down the stairs from the bed (it’s a tall bed for an old cat) and started to follow me into the bathroom. I got a fully squawked lecture about how what I really should be doing is prioritizing her gooshy food preparation and delivery. She was really quite insistent. When the Fop got up, he got a similar lecture. She’s really quite persuasive and the Fop fetched her gooshy food for her immediately like a good thumb monkey.
So the good news is that she’s doing better, has more energy and potentially more mobility. She’s certainly more willing to be mobile, which is an awesome sign.
The bad news? She’s now a spoiled evil queen who yells at her servants and steals their beds.
Of course, she’s always been demanding… I think we’ve brought this upon ourselves and we will continue to dote on her Evilness because she really easy a much happier Evil this week.

An unfortunate side-effect of stinky gooshy food is that it attracts a certain large and imposing goofball named Tennyson. In order to give Evil a chance to actually eat her (drugged) food, I have conceded that Monster Cat can have a tiny bit too. It’s special food so he really doesn’t need much. And it really stinks to high heaven. Miss Evil is sufficiently picky that she prefers her gooshy food at room temperature. To keep the roaming tribes of Monster Cat from devouring it, I’m letting the portions sit on the counter for a bit. This morning, I just let the can sit there because we’re using up the last bit in it and of course that’s when Tenny decided investigate.

The above panel from a Two Lumps cartoon this week is a perfect descriptor for our weekend. Miss Evil had a stumbling and disoriented incident of lethargy Friday night that concerned us greatly. A visit to the vet Saturday yielded many yowls and noises you’d expect to hear only from zombies or demons … or demon-zombies. She was not a happy camper by any stretch of the imagination. Untoward and uncouth things were done to her… things we shall not speak of here for the sake of her modesty. But I will say the indignities will not be quickly forgotten and she plots her revenge even now. She left the vet’s office with a camel back (subcutaneous fluids), prescription anti-inflammatory drugs and gooshy food.
Yes, gooshy, wet, smelly, disgusting cat food in a can.
At this point, you may have divined how I feel about canned cat food.
I am persevering because she seems to really like it. We are pampering her. All her cat comforts are within five feet of her favorite napping spot (the Fop’s side of the bed) and I am putting up with the lingering smell of gooshy food in the bedroom. We are checking on her rather regularly, as all good thumb monkeys worry a lot… She’s getting lots of attention and generally being the Ancient Evil Queen of myth and legend. She seems to be doing a bit better, I think – moving with a bit less stumbling as well as being less cranky. It’s amazing how much a cat’s attitude can improve if you wait on her paw and paw.
But, you may ask, how is Monster Cat taking all this?
Well, Friday night he was curious and concerned because we were watching her so closely. He didn’t actually cause trouble but he was also very attentive to Miss Evil. Yesterday he was a noodge and super-interested in the gooshy food, of course… more on that this week in his regular appearances I think. He had adoring fans over last night to watch a movie, which helped him feel less jealous of all the attention Miss Evil is getting, but he’s still intent on that gooshy food… Before yesterday, he didn’t even know gooshy food existed.
