Just in case you were worried, the asparagus fern continues to flourish almost to the detriment of the purple passion vine in the pot with it. There will be dividing in the spring. Again. I like this photo because the afternoon sun is blazing on and through the plants but the outside world is cold and white. I do love our sun porch.

Today was fun. Well, yesterday technically at this point. A bunch of the usual suspects (meaning of course: Berrick, Lissa, Siovhan, Merricke, Mark and the Fop along with myself) ended up at the Melting Pot to celebrate my birthday with fondue. We’d been meaning to go for a while and the stars aligned for both an excuse (my birthday) and an easy menu (restaurant week, which may or may not have turned out to be a discount). As often happens with such a combination of people, amusement was had. I am the Princess of Asparagus, by the by. I believe everyone paid tribute to me with their spears of asparagus, which was pretty much awesome since I love the stuff. I’m glad no one was in a hurry because we were there over 3 hours. Fabulous people also gave me treats of books, yarn and maple sugar candy… Thank you all for the company and the wonderful evening!

I also now have a combination camera and laptop bag the size of a semi trailer thanks to the Fop. I now have more bag than I have camera, a deficiency I’d like to remedy.

I am not yet fully packed for Birka. This should surprise no one. (Though I will point out that the Fop’s swords are already in the little car.) I did locate all the jewelry I want to wear Saturday. And I picked out the garb too. I just have to go put it all in the same bag. We are driving up tomorrow and staying with my brother in Concord – so those of you who will be there this weekend, see you on Saturday I hope!

And now? I should go finish packing.

It’s kind of a gray day down here… we got a dusting of snow over night and it’s threatening for the evening as well. I have to go into the city for a class tonight and I think I’ll take the good ol’ Subaru in rather than the shiny new Mini. I just don’t trust the drivers around here. Well, that and the concept of plowing doesn’t really exist here. Plus the Subaru needs a little outing to keep it peppy.

So here are the amaryllis blooms that burst out over the past few days. From the looks of the bulbs there are more to come. I love the geometry of amaryllis flowers and the coloration on this set is particularly lovely.
There are only 3 bulbs and each stalk promises 3-5 flowers.
Hurray!
Sure, they might be a little crowded in the tiny little basket they came in but they’re fabulous!!

Evil is difficult to photograph for many reasons chief among which is the fact that she hates the flash from my camera. And yet, here she is, so tired and worn out after a long morning’s … cattiness that she can’t even get up the energy to hiss or run away. And she so adorable when she’s tired! Enjoy because these are probably the best shots I’ll get of the elusive Miss Evil for sometime!

I’d like to say that I keep my jewelery meticulously organized and safe in a box designed for that express purpose. I’d also like a billion dollars.

A couple of years ago (perhaps more than a couple) I picked up these cute little mugs at Pennsic. They are adorable but not the most useful in day-to-day drinking endeavors. (I have a third mug approximately this size that lives on my belt when I am off being a medieval Norse chick. When people insist on having you try something and you’re not sure about it but wish to be polite, having a tiny little mug comes in handy!) So, now that this paragraph has been taken over by parenthetical commentary, I say we cut it loose and move on…

These mugs live on my desk to contain my rings. I tend to fidget with rings while I’m working so my rings used to end up everywhere on my desk rather than back on my fingers. Now they live in the little mugs. It sounds silly, but this practice has cut down significantly on the cases of, “Where did I leave that ring?” since the state of my desk is not always conducive to finding little things quickly.
