She tried to warn him.
He tried to listen.
But there was no escape.

Procrastination

Apparently I have been forgiven for the trip to the vet today. I have a large, gray cat in my lap trying to help me with my re-write for class tomorrow. He’s warm, cute and purring, so I guess I win. It’s amazing the positions he finds comfortable too… curled up with his head ont he desk and the rest of him in my lap. I’m like 3 miles away from my keyboard right now. Miss Evil is still grouching on the bed but her vet visit was more taxing and she has earned the right to grouch.
Procrastination is a good thing.
I will be doing Nanowrimo this year despite a long laundry list of reasons to skip it this year. I don’t expect to finish or hit 50,000 words this year, but it’ll be good to use the momentum of Nanowrimo to get something started. My novel can help me procrastinate doing my resume and my resume can help me procrastinate writing my novel. And when both need to be procrastinated, there’s always my next essay revision for class. I may have stumbled upon the perfect procrastinatory productivity loop.
Right, back to my essay.

So the strip is a little late today because all the paws in the house got to go to the vet this morning. Mr. Paw himself was insufferably whiny and howled most of the time he was in his carrier. Miss Evil was not happy with the transportation accommodations either but was even less happy with Dr. Silverberg’s attention. She made sounds we’ve never heard her make before. But they’ve had their shots and all sorts of tests and now they’re both sulking in the bedroom. It’s hard being cats these days when your thumb-monkeys don’t worship you like the gods you are.

We haven’t had a frost yet but we’ll probably get one this week. I’m going to end up harvesting a whole bunch of green cayenne and serrano peppers so that I don’t totally lose them to the frost. My plans for next spring include starting seeds earlier and getting them into the raised beds 2-4 weeks earlier as well. I’ll probably plant serranos, cayenne and one other hot pepper variety next year. And LESS basil. Not that there’s anything wrong with basil, but that was a jungle of basil! The rosemary seems to be doing well. I have to determine if it needs to be bundled up a little for winter or just left to hang out in the raised bed.
Along with the impending frost, I have 2 gorgeous blooms and a couple buds left on the climbing rose out back as well as some fat buds on the rose I planted out front this spring. This long season is still bizarre to me. But who am I to complain with a beautiful gray day to light succulent end-of-season roses for fabulous photographic opportunities?

I made pumpkin pie and applesauce Saturday and started some hot peppers in the dehydrator. The applesauce came out very tasty, if I do say so myself… and I do. Not bad for my first applesauce! I used a little less sugar than the recipe called for which turned out just right. Later this week there will be beef stew. Grocery shopping was quick and productive. And the house still smells marvelous from the cooking earlier. Of course, I’ll have to get more apples at the farm stand this week so that I can make more applesauce to freeze… we kinda hit the batch I made today hard. Oh shucks. Yum.
Sunday was less productive. The chill of autumn has set in so I had a fuzzy-slippered, wool-socked and sweatered day. I know that I need to eventually turn on the heat, but I really like the house this cold. (I’ll probably have to turn the heat on when the Fop gets back from his business trip this week.) Sure, it was very, very difficult to get out of bed this morning, but it being Monday had a lot to do with that as well. Something about this weather just makes me gleeful. Now if only I got the bright foliage colors to go along with it.
Of course, now that the weather has turned cold, a certain little gray cat is insisting on being in my pocket. This is fine when I’m on a conference call just following along with an on-screen presentation. It’s less convenient when I’m trying to work. He has been in and out of my lap a dozen times this morning. Currently he has blocked my trackball with himself and is pressing his forehead into my right forearm. Purring. But I know what he’s really trying to do is get me to lift my arm so he can get in closer to me and get more attention. It’s hard being Monster Cat’s thumb-monkey.
